Website for consultants: what it needs and what it costs
An independent consultant's website costs EUR 600 to 900 as a single page, built in 1 to 2 weeks, or EUR 900 to 1.500 as a small site with a basic CMS, built in 2 to 3 weeks. Both exclude VAT. Nothing about consulting requires more page than that, and what pushes a project further up the ladder is a feature, not a profession.
What the buyer is doing on your site
Consider how your clients found you. Someone was referred to you, read something you wrote, sat across a table from you, or got your name from a colleague who hired you. By the time they open your site they are not shopping. They are checking. Are you real, do you work on the problem they have, has anyone credible paid you for it, and how do they start a conversation without committing to anything.
All of that fits on one page, and a page that answers it in that order beats a site that scatters it across a menu. Every extra page is another decision handed to a reader who came to make one.
A site with a page for every service you could name looks expensive. Those pages repeat each other, compete with each other in search results, and leave the buyer picking a category instead of contacting you. The version that works states one offer, names who it is for, shows the work behind it, and gets out of the way.
Step 01: EUR 600 to 900
One page, a contact form that actually delivers, analytics wired up, responsive layout, 1 to 2 weeks. The design work here is not decoration. It is deciding what claim goes at the top, what proof sits under it, what gets cut, and where the form goes so that reading ends at it.
The build is the smaller part of the job. Positioning is the expensive part of a consultant's page and the part that decides whether it works at all. The words are yours to supply. A page cannot be finished before its text exists, so start writing before the project starts.
Step 02: EUR 900 to 1.500
Two or three pages, a contact flow and a basic CMS, 2 to 3 weeks. It earns the difference when one of these is true.
- You sell offers that do not share a buyer. A training programme bought by an HR lead and an advisory retainer bought by a founder need separate arguments. One page cannot make both without weakening each.
- You publish. If writing is already part of how you get hired, a CMS means the next piece goes live without an invoice attached to it. If you have been meaning to start writing and have not, the CMS sits empty and step 01 is the honest purchase.
- You need a page that is not aimed at clients. A speaking and media page, or a page for a programme you run with a partner, can justify its own address.
The steps in order
| Step | Price | What it covers | When a consultant needs it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 Single-page landing | EUR 600-900 | 1 page, form, analytics, responsive | Solo practice, one offer, work arrives by referral |
| 02 Mini-site | EUR 900-1.500 | 2-3 pages, contact flow, basic CMS | Distinct offers with different buyers, or you publish |
| 03 Business website | EUR 1.500-3.500 | 4-7 pages, CMS, service pages, booking or contact | A firm with staff, several real services, client booking |
| 04 Advanced site or web app | EUR 3.500-7.500 | Login, dashboard, API, CRM, payments, chatbot | You sell a programme online or clients log in to something |
What moves the quote
- How much already exists. A brand you are keeping, usable photography and finished text shorten the work. Starting from nothing lengthens it.
- Accounts and payments. Taking card payment for a course, or giving clients a login, is step 04 at EUR 3.500 to 7.500. That is a different kind of build, not a larger version of the same one.
- Languages. Every extra language is another set of text to write, review and keep current after launch.
- What happens after launch. Care runs EUR 100 to 300 per month and covers updates, monitoring, backups and small fixes. It does not cover a redesign and it does not cover new features.
Search is priced apart from the build. SEO foundation is a one-off of EUR 450 to 750: Search Console and analytics set up properly, indexation checked, technical hygiene, titles, internal links, and a plan covering the next 3 to 6 months. If you later want that plan carried out month after month, SEO growth runs EUR 500 to 800 per month for technical and on-page work, service and location pages, internal links and reporting.
How the project runs
- Scoping. We go through the offer, the buyer, what already exists and what has to work. A fixed quote always follows scoping, it never precedes it.
- Structure. The order of the argument and what proof carries it, agreed in writing before any design happens.
- Design and build. Built the way it will ship and reviewed on a real phone, not only in a mockup.
- Launch. Domain, analytics, and form delivery tested with a real submission before anyone sends traffic at it.
Step 01 runs 1 to 2 weeks, step 02 runs 2 to 3 weeks, step 03 runs 3 to 6 weeks. Those clocks start when the text and the images are in hand. Scoping can happen while you are still writing; the build cannot.
When to spend less
If your work arrives entirely by referral and you need somewhere credible to send people, step 01 is enough, and paying for more is buying pages nobody will open. Do not buy a CMS you have no intention of publishing into. Do not commission service pages for services you would rather stop selling.
Care is optional on a single page with no moving parts, provided you are willing to say something when it breaks. SEO growth is worth nothing before the site exists and the offer is settled, so the one-off foundation is the sensible order. And if the honest answer at the end of scoping is that you need one page, one page is what gets quoted.
The whole ladder with what each step includes is on the packages page, and how the work is actually built is on design and engineering.
Questions consultants ask
Does a one page site hurt me in search?
A single page can rank for one subject, which for a consultant with one offer is the only subject worth ranking for. What does hurt is a stack of thin pages saying the same thing in different words. If search is a channel you want to take seriously, the route up is publishing something worth linking to, which means a CMS or blog module, an add-on at EUR 300 to 600, plus an SEO foundation, not more service pages.
Who owns the site when it is finished?
You do. The code, the repository and the database are yours. You can take the project to another developer.
Can you host it for me?
We can, and hosting is agreed per customer rather than bundled in by default. It is discussed during scoping, and the quote says whether it is included.
What if I want a booking calendar?
Booking sits in step 03 at EUR 1.500 to 3.500 as part of a fuller site. On a single page, a short form that reaches your inbox is quicker to complete than a calendar, and it does not show an empty week to a first-time enquirer. If intake calls are a fixed part of how you sell, that is a genuine reason to add booking: on a page you already have, it is an add-on at EUR 350 to 750.
How long until it is live?
1 to 2 weeks at step 01 and 2 to 3 weeks at step 02, measured from the point where the text exists. The writing sets the pace far more than the build does.
